The creative process is very much at the heart of our work. We believe that the journey involved in enabling and making work is every bit as important as the final product. Many of our artists work in educational settings and all have a wealth of experience in working with all ages.
  CREATION MYTHS: January 2007        
  A delightful day at The Beacon, Hastings. You will work with other artists, writers and musicians to explore art forms, try new approaches and rekindle creative sparks, using the concept of creation myths.

A selected group of creative people will share insights, combine their strengths and break down barriers. The process will culminate in an exhibition and/or performance showcasing elements of the day. Expect to go home with new ideas, contacts and inspiration.

The Beacon is a welcoming, relaxed, creative centre, which is also home to a number of artists.

Artist, Judy Dewsbery and playwright, Jan Maloney, have a wealth of individual professional experience. Together they are founder members of dab Arts, Hastings Youth Theatre and they developed Express Train, a course to encourage creativity in the workplace.

We have developed our own programme of creative training workshops, aimed at anyone who is interested in discovering, or rediscovering, pathways to creativity, either in their own personal work, or as a starting point from which to explore new directions with groups.

This innovative approach can be applied to many different situations, particularly those where traditional routes are inappropriate or ineffective. Express train would be suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, artists, youth workers, play workers, parents, childminders, volunteers, anyone involved in staff development, or those working in creative industries.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

* A one day course focussing on ways to explore personal creativity and its application to
individual development and confidence building. The activities will be suitable for all levels of ability.
The day will be divided into a series of manageable steps, always accompanied by the help
and guidance of the course leaders.

* There will be opportunities to work on your own and with other people, in pairs, or in groups,
and, by the end of the day, you should find that the creative process is becoming more
understandable and, most of all, enjoyable!

* There will be opportunities to discuss your responses and how the days experiences
